CHAVEZ ELORZA, Mónica; GASPAR OLVERA, Selene  e  RODRIGUEZ RAMIREZ, Héctor. Mexican children’s social welfare according to international migration links: an approach. Región y sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.72, 00012. ISSN 2448-4849.  https://doi.org/10.22198/rys.2018.72.a839.

Since the start of the 21st century, a positive view of the effects of international migration on promotion of development of origin countries, especially regarding remittances, remains. The aim here is to examine the welfare indicators of children living in households with international migration links. Based on data from the 2010 Population and Housing Census and descriptive statistics, social conditions that prevail in this population are reviewed, with one of the parents, or both, being present in the household. The results show that Mexican children face limitations concerning child labor, educational backwardness, non-attendance at school and food insufficiency, and that those living in households with migration links are more vulnerable. This means that the State should design public policies that consider the characteristics of this population in order to improve its social condition and development.
