Abstract

RUIZ MEDRANO, Carlos Rubén. El Real de Minas de Bolaños, Jalisco, en el siglo XVIII: transformaciones territoriales y cambios sociales. Región y sociedad [online]. 2014, vol.26, n.60, pp.191-228. ISSN 2448-4849.

This article intends to explain how the eighteenth-century mining development of the Real de Minas de Bolaños, a mining site located in the north of the present-day state of Jalisco, Mexico, became a powerful incentive to subordinate the adjacent territory to a new commercial logic that transformed the territory and affected the indigenous communities located in Fronteras de San Luis Colotlán, Jalisco. This was a multifactorial phenomenon that suppressed ethnic identities while generating various social conflicts at the region. We believe that analyzing colonial mining under in this way provides new and more complex angles to examine the territorial impacts of this activity.

Keywords : mining; Real de Minas de Bolaños; Fronteras de San Luis Colotlán; territory; eighteenth century; indigenous communities.
