The aim of this article is to analyze the characteristics of livestock technical assistance providers in Sinaloa using human capital variables, in order to identify critical factors and proposals for improving this service. We used stratified sampling, principal component analysis and a chi-squared test to analyze categorical variables. The livestock technician is described according to five components associated with attributes, skills, knowledge and behavior. The critical factors of livestock extension work include attributes such as inadequate salary and a place of residence different from that of their producers, in addition to context variables or behavior such as the lack of interest by the producer in implementing technological innovations. The results can be used for the development of training programs and recruitment of livestock extension workers.
