Resumen

CRUZ CORIA, Erika; ZIZUMBO VILLARREAL, Lilia; MONTERROSO SALVATIERRA, Neptalí  y  QUINTANILLA MONTOYA, Ana Luz. La confrontación social por el espacio costero: la configuración de paisajes turísticos en Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo. Región y sociedad [online]. 2013, vol.25, n.56, pp.127-160. ISSN 2448-4849.

Seeking to incorporate Puerto Morelos into the process of "modernization," the government encouraged participation of different social actors who, realizing its potential for fishing but especially for tourism, imposed certain forms of exploitation of natural resources and use of coastal areas which would be key to the economic gains from these activities. The aim of this study was to document the process by which tourism landscapes took shape along the coast, based on confrontations between different social actors during the transition period that spanned from the import substitution crisis to the adoption of economic neoliberalism, when that coastal space and its natural resources passed from state to private ownership. This study adopts the theoretical and methodological contributions of several authors that allowed us to understand the transformations of the landscape in the context of social confrontation.

Palabras llave : ownership; social space; Puerto Morelos; tourism; social confrontation; tourist landscapes.
