The purpose of this study is to present Raymundo Faoro's reflections on the political and economic process of the 1990s in Brazil. Several of his articles and interviews published in the mainstream media were analyzed in search of important elements of Brazilian social life that, according to historical foresight, would endure beyond the twentieth century. Among the most relevant results are those which show the several impasses faced by the country due to the internal challenges of an oligarchic logic which was constantly reproduced through leaders' procedures and actions, as well as external contradictions arising from the new challenges generated by the ongoing globalization process.
