Abstract

LUTZ LEY, América N.  and  SALAZAR ADAMS, Alejandro. Medio ambiente y organizaciones de la sociedad civil: análisis de las redes civiles ambientalistas en Hermosillo, Sonora. Región y sociedad [online]. 2011, vol.23, n.51, pp.5-41. ISSN 2448-4849.

The emergence of environmental non-governmental organizations in Sonora occurred over two decades ago, though research on their characteristics and strategies is scarce. This article presents an analysis of information, support, and material and financial resource relationships between 11 environmental ngos in Hermosillo, as well as with ngos outside the municipality, academic institutions and government agencies. For each type of relationship, the density and hierarchical structure of the internal and external networks was measured, and the most outstanding actors were detected. Results indicate that density and frequency of links decreases as costs increase. The Hermosillo network shows a hierarchical structure and has the highest densities of information, support, and material resource relationships, whereas the links from government to non-governmental organizations are the densest for financial resources.

Keywords : civil society organizations; social network analysis; environment; political ecology; mathematical sociology; sociology of organizations.
