OLAVARRIETA CARMONA, María Victoria; WATTS THORP, Christopher John y SAIZ HERNANDEZ, Juan Arcadio. Beneficios de la cuota energética. Estudio de caso de la Costa de Hermosillo, Sonora, México, 2006-2007. Región y sociedad [online]. 2010, vol.22, n.47, pp. 145-164. ISSN 1870-3925.
This article analyzes the present situation regarding benefits from the electrical energy subsidy, with special tariffs for agricultural activities (9CU and 9N), during agricultural cycle 2006-2007 in Irrigation District 051, Costa de Hermosillo, and its impact on the economic utility of different crops. The calculation of the quota for subsidized energy and its application are also discussed. The consumption of electrical energy and the amounts paid for this service are compared with the volume of water extracted from each well, used in the production of the diverse crops. We conclude the water subsidy allows significant water extraction and waste, the use of inefficient equipment, and the cultivation of unprofitable crops.
