HERNANDEZ MORENO, María del Carmen y VAZQUEZ RUIZ, Miguel Ángel. Industrias Bachoco: estrategias de localización y competitividad ante el nuevo escenario avícola. Región y sociedad [online]. 2009, vol.21, n.46, pp.27-51. ISSN 2448-4849.
The substantial changes in the Mexican agri-food system has driven companies to apply strategies that allow them to function in a more competitive, complex and uncertain context. In the poultry branch, Bachoco Industries has gained industry leadership nationally, despite the pressure of trade deregulation and the competition of two of the major transnational poultry consortiums. This article presents the outcomes obtained by the company since implementing its nation-wide market penetration strategy. A location theory perspective suggests the hypothesis that such a strategy has allowed Bachoco to add comparative regional advantages and given it the ability to adapt its offer to the customs and traditions of each regional market, which no other competitor has done. The imminent total deregulation of the Mexican poultry market would encourage the conglomerate to accelerate its renovation in order to stay up to par with its international competitors.
