This article analyzes the link between the development model and the occupational structure in Sonora between 1900 and 1960, in order to understand the nature and pace of industrialization in this state. Using available statistical sources, we review the sectors which give dynamism to the economy, and analyze the industrial sector's structure and labor force. We argue that the move towards a development model based on commercial agriculture provoked some deindustrialization, as well as severe regional inequalities.
