This article focuses on the relationship between urbanization and natural resources management. Based on a case study, it describes urban development tendencies of eight municipalities which form part of the Ayuquila River middle basin, linking these tendencies with regional socioenvironmental problems. Based on this case study analysis, the article finishes with some general conclusions regarding regional sustainable development.
