First, this paper will deal with a short introduction concerning the 'one person, one vote' principle with reference to the situation in which electoral districts are in Mexico, both at the federal and subnational or state levels. Second, the cases of the states of Sonora and Sinaloa are analysed from a comparative perspective. Lastly, the impact of the district system on the party representation is examined.
