Abstract

CABRERA TOLEDO, Lester. La controversia por la delimitación marítima entre Chile y Perú: construcción y aplicación de un discurso geopolítico. CONfines relacion. internaci. ciencia política [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.14, pp.101-128. ISSN 1870-3569.

From practical and formal geopolitics, this article seeks to establish the current dispute over the maritime delimitation between Chile and Peru as a planned and deliberate construction of the Peruvian Foreign Ministry for the maintenance of a historical-political agenda towards Chile, which, at the same time shapes a position of status quo. However, the disregard and lack of planning in the long term on the part of Chile has also played a fundamental role. Despite that in both countries a separate bilateral agenda has been institutionalized, the initiative continues to be concentrated on the Peruvian side and future territorial conflicts cannot be precluded.

Keywords : critical geopolitics; discourse; conflict; boundaries; foreign policy.
