Abstract

ENKERLIN MADERO, Helke  and  LUIS ZATARAIN, Marcela. ¿Víctimas o victimarias? Replanteando concepciones sobre mujeres terroristas suicidas. CONfines relacion. internaci. ciencia política [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.13, pp.147-176. ISSN 1870-3569.

This article analyzes, through the lens of feminist theories, the motivations of women who engage in acts of suicide terrorism and question whether they are different from those of men. Their role in these organizations and their objectives are also examined. Finally, the article attempts to determine if the phenomenon of female suicide terrorism reflects increasing equality in their social context or is merely a way of exploiting the stereotypical image and traditional roles of women. In the course of research, three cases where women's participation is of note were analyzed: the palestinian-israeli conñict, the Black Tigresses of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the so-called "black widows" of Chechnya.

Keywords : women; suicide terrorism; feminist theories.
