Because of the triumph of liberalism, in which the old political and institutional structures have been surpassed by the new reality, I analyze the implications of a new global era in which the United States seems to have an incommensurable power of action and decision making. The article explores how structural problems of the international system are created by the lack of attention from hegemonic actors to issues such as economic inequalities, as well as political and ideological crises. I explain why the former creates a very troubling situation at the present moment.
