Resumen

SANCHEZ-MONTIJANO, Elena. The Model for Reintegrating Migrants in Mexico: Living with Two Realities. Norteamérica [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.2, pp.267-292.  Epub 28-Abr-2023. ISSN 2448-7228.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2022.2.588.

Mexico has been characterized as having high levels of emigration, migrants in transit, and returnees. Today, we must add migrants who enter the country and settle. Despite the increasing importance of migrant arrivals into the country, their integration is only recently being studied, much less efficiently handled. This article explores the integration model implemented in Mexico as part of the federal migratory policy and why it has been chosen. The author has worked with qualitative data: indepth interviews and documentary analysis. She concludes that two integration models are implemented side by side: the one that stems from the norms, predominantly inclusionary and multicultural, and the one that is applied, which is assimilationist and differentiates certain migrants from nationals, in response to the state’s social, political, and economic interests.
