Abstract

RIVERMAR PEREZ, María Leticia. En un porvenir incierto: La transición a la adultez entre jóvenes de un municipio de la Sierra Norte de Puebla, México. Norteamérica [online]. 2012, vol.7, n.1, pp.99-124. ISSN 2448-7228.

This article’s central aim is to analyze the transition to adulthood by young people from a rural municipality in the Northern Mountains of Puebla, inhabited by groups of mestizos, Nahua, and Otomí, characterized in recent decades by accelerated migration to the United States. To situate the overlaps and discrepancies in that transition, the author looks at gender and ethnic differences. The ethnographic information that is the basis of what she presents was gathered over four years of field work in the mestizo municipal government seat and in an Otomí community.

Keywords : Northern Mountains of Puebla; transition to adulthood; work; migrations; gender and ethnicity.
