This paper describes and illustrates Protobelba retanai sp. nov. with specimens from Costa Rica. This is the second species of the Protobelba genus in the world and the first one described for Costa Rica. It presents spine adnata; sensillum attenuated with fine barbulation in the distal third; epimeral quetotaxia 3-1-3-4; in the genital plate, setae g3 and g5 are displaced laterally, and femur of leg III with 5 setae.
