In a secondary mixed forest in Guatemala City, field surveys (collecting, photographing, and observations) of butterflies were conducted from November 2014 to October 2019, which yielded 109 species in 77 genera from 17 subfamilies of 6 families of the order Lepidoptera. Species richness and composition varied highly among months, showing no marked seasonal patterns between the dry and rainy seasons. The results suggest that a small and isolated woodland can harbor a rich lepidopteran fauna, and that this type of habitat is of great importance for the maintenance of insect diversity in urban areas subject to constant environmental degradation. This is the first study on Lepidoptera conducted across multiple years in Guatemala City, and serves as a baseline for biodiversity conservation studies in the metropolitan area.
