MANZANILLA-QUINONES, Ulises; AGUIRRE-CALDERON, Óscar Alberto; JIMENEZ-PEREZ, Javier  y  VILLANUEVA-DIAZ, José. Climate sensitivity in tree-ring widths of Pinus hartwegii: a Mexican alpine species with dendroclimatic potential. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2020, vol.91, e913117.  Epub 22-Dic-2020. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2020.91.3117.

This study analyzed the climatic response, dendrochronological potential, and influence of oceanic-atmospheric phenomena in tree-rings of Pinus hartwegii Lindl. in 3 sites in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. From 36 to 40 growth nuclei per site were sampled. The samples were analyzed and dated using dendrochronological techniques. The total ring width was measured with a micrometer. Verification of the dating was carried out by correlation analysis. The records of weather stations near the study sites were downloaded from the CLICOM database, radial weather-growth response periods were identified, and correlations among ARSTAN chronologies and ENOS, ODP and OMA indices were developed to evaluate the influence of these phenomena on radial-growth. The analysis of dendrochronological parameters showed that the dendrochronological potential for P. hartwegii was from intermediate to high. The highest climatic sensitivity for the species was recorded in Nevado de Colima. The winter-spring precipitation was the variable that influenced more the growth, while the average maximum temperature negatively affected the growth of the trees. ENOS and OMA did not influence the radial growth. However, in Nevado de Colima ODP had a positive and significant influence on growth.
