OLVERA-VITAL, Arturo; REBON-GALLARDO, M. Fanny y NAVARRO-SIGUENZA, Adolfo G.. Bird diversity and taxonomic turnover in the different habitats in Misantla, Veracruz, Mexico: species comparison over time. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2020, vol.91, e913070. Epub 02-Dic-2020. ISSN 2007-8706. https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2020.91.3070.
We present an analysis of the bird diversity of Misantla, Veracruz. We made an inventory from data collected through point counts, transects, non-systematic observations, identifications through vocalizations, and specimen collections using mist nets. Additionally, we made a literature search of birds of this region deposited in biological collections of the world in order to compare its changes over time. We estimate species richness, relative abundance, seasonality, endemism, conservation status, and exotic species. We recorded 161 bird species, most of them permanente residents, including a new record for the region. We generated dissimilarity dendrograms to understand how species composition varies among vegetation types and we found a differentiation between the north and south zones of the study area. We found a relation of dependent between the number of habitats occupied by a species and the species relative abundance. We compared our data versus data from the 19th century, and found small changes in the proportion of species in vegetation types, migration status or protection category. However, is impossible to evaluate if have happened modifications in abundances.
