Resumen

LIST, Rurik et al. Conservation in Mexico: exploring achievements, challenges and perspectives from terrestrial ecology. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2017, vol.88, suppl., pp.65-75. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rmb.2017.10.007.

The development of ecology in Mexico started in the second half of the last century, providing important insights to conservation of biodiversity. In this context, some topics have had a significant development, such as tropical forest regeneration, and methods for the selection of priority sites for conservation; whereas other issues have developed more recently, such as studies on invasive species and their effects on native biodiversity. The dimension of the environmental problems faced by Mexico and the planet presents new challenges to ecologists, whose research aims to contribute to biodiversity conservation. In a mega-diverse country like Mexico, it is crucial to increase resources for training researchers and strengthen institutions that conduct research in ecology and conservation. Undoubtedly, the information generated by ecology studies focused on conservation is one of the main tools to take the appropriate biodiversity management and conservation decisions.
