Mites and ticks comprise the most diverse group of arachnids with worldwide distribution, living in land, freshwater and marine habitats, having a great variety of food preferences and establishing different symbiosis with almost all the living organisms. The richness of mites recorded in Mexico is 2 625 species in 5 orders representing 4.8% of the world's diversity (54 617). The better known taxon is that of ticks. We discuss the species coextintion process.
