AGUIRRE-ACOSTA, Elvira et al. Biodiversity of fungi in Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2014, vol.85, suppl., pp.S76-S81. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.7550/rmb.33649.

An analysis of the state of knowledge of the biodiversity of fungi in Mexico is presented, based upon the available bibliographic reviews, as well as a comparative estimation of the macro- and microfungi that are known in Mexico and in the world. In Mexico it is estimated that 200 000 fungal species occur, taking into account the data analyzed for the present work, only about 5% have been studied. The states of Veracruz and Jalisco have the highest number of species registered, followed by the state of Mexico. The problems to quantify the fungal species and some strategies to resolve this issue are considered, such as the need for systematic studies of all biomes of the country, taking into consideration the habitats and microhabitats present in them, the formation of many more taxonomists specialized in mycology, and the strengthening of fungal collections, among others strategies.

Palavras-chave : Fungi; inventory; estimation of diversity; number of species.
