Resumen
MAYEN-ESTRADA, Rosaura; REYES-SANTOS, Margarita y VICENCIO-AGUILAR, Maricela Elena. Biodiversity of protists (heterotrophic flagellates) in Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2014, vol.85, suppl., pp.S26-S33. ISSN 2007-8706. https://doi.org/10.7550/rmb.32922.
In Mexico, 146 species of heterotrophic flagellates, included in Rhizaria, Stramenopiles and Excavata, have been reported. Parabasalids, opalines, trypanosomatids and bodonids have the higher specific richness. The genera Trypanosoma, Trichomonas, Metadevescovina and Bodo, contain the greatest number of species, and Bodo has been reported from a variety of habitats. Trypanosoma is the genus with the widest geographic distribution due to its presence in 20 Mexican states. We conclude that the study of heterotrophic flagellates is only partial and new species, new habitats and new geographic records are possible.
