Abstract

PLIEGO-CARDENAS, Ricardo  and  GONZALEZ-PEDRAZA, Aurora. The families Olividae and Olivellidae at the Malacological Collection of the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas, IPN, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2011, vol.82, n.4, pp.1138-1144. ISSN 2007-8706.

We present an evaluation of the shells from sea snails of the families Olividae and Olivellidae deposited at the mollusk collection of the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas, IPN, México. Two hundred and five lots and 1173 specimens were analyzed. The family Olividae is represented by the genera Oliva Bruguière, 1789 and Agaronia Gray, 1839, with 8 and 4 species, respectively; whereas the family Olivellidae is represented by Olivella Swainson, 1831 and Jaspidella Olsson, 1956, with 15 and 2 species, respectively. New records of Agaronia griseoalba (von Martens, 1897) from the Mexican Pacific are considered. A record of A. nica López, Montoya y López, 1988 suggests an extension of its geographical range.

Keywords : neogastropods; new record; distribution range.
