Abstract

GUTIERREZ RAMIREZ, Servando; RAMIREZ SANCHEZ, David Francisco  and  VALLADARES SANCHEZ, Clara Elena. The level of schooling and its incidence in the future employment of young people: opinion of indigenous and non-indigenous secondary school students and baccalaureate of Tenango de Doria; Hidalgo, Mexico. Polis [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.2, pp.127-163. ISSN 2594-0686.

At the global level, the economic crises that have happened at the end of the 20th century and those that are predicted for the first decades of the 21st century, have affected in a direct and important way the younger population, in both the education and labor aspect. As a result, the high level of unemployment observed in several countries is being justified by the lack of experience, gender and ethnicity of the generational groups. In the present study, young people from the municipality of Tenango de Doria in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico, found the idea of “studying / having experience” is of utmost importance to them. This is why their intention of betting on achieving a higher schooling is clear, as they believe that “studying for a better future” is a truth and not a myth that would allow them to overcome, in some way, the situation of poverty and social vulnerability in which they currently live in their place of origin.

Keywords : Marginalization; poverty; education; labor expectations; youth; indigenous.
