Abstract
MEDINA AUDELO, Ricardo. Sociocultural integration: a perspective of the Latin American in Catalonia. Polis [online]. 2016, vol.12, n.2, pp.141-175. ISSN 2594-0686.
Society are increasingly complex and multicultural. The current intensification of migration processes is due to the pressure and the power that Globalization and Neoliberalism exert on nations. This incessant international migration of people constitutes new social realities for expelling and receiving societies. The way in which host-societies manage cultural diversity leads to social integration or exclusion of immigrants. The following paper aims to identify and analyze, through nine focus groups, the social signification of Latin American immigrants about the integration in Catalonia. This research presents an interdisciplinary approach: discourse analysis, political science and social psychology. It employs a qualitative, phenomenological and empirical method. Through this work we’ll find out a polarized, euphoric and dysphoric, discourse about integration. However, skepticism prevails. This may be due to the uncertainty that characterizes the age in which we live.
