Abstract

HERRERA LIMA, Fernando. The remittancedependency of mexican economy: Remittances, direct foreing investment, tourism and oil in the NAFTA period. Polis [online]. 2016, vol.12, n.1, pp.45-83. ISSN 2594-0686.

Several high level academic writings have already prove that the economic model based on the massive exportation of cheap, vulnerable and flexible workforce has proved itself as unworkable and already reach the limit by now. In this work, as a complement, the data that is presented allows the reader to verify that this economic model has been unable to generate foreign currency to maintein its performance, so far the remittances (the wages trasfered to Mexico by immigrants), which have functioned as one of the basic pillars in this sense, present a picture of strong uncertainty; at the time that shows the growing ineffectiveness of the suppossed complementary pillars: oil, foreign direct investment and tourism.

Keywords : remittences; migration; vulnerability; foreing investment; tourism; oil.
