Based on a review of the concept of partisan identification across the different tendencies of electoral behavior, the essay arrives to three basic dimensions: construction, strength and partisan identification direction. It highlight's of the need for convergence of the different approaches that have analyzed electoral behavior, but without falling to an uncritical eclecticism. It also proposes an index to measure the fundamental dimension of partisan identification: force.
