BEJARANO GERKE, Guiomar. Role played by lay judges in the Bolivian penal system from a psychological approach. Rev. IUS [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.34, pp.166-181. ISSN 1870-2147.
To try the crimes, Bolivia has a jury system composed of judges and lay people. Even though criteria for selecting them are established by Law, they are frequently insufficient and the practice shows difficulties in the court; if the selected person has low education level. Moreover, we can see that the role played by technical judge usually prevails; because of these and other reasons, as well as the perception on the justice and other factors. The research was carried out through consultation with Judges, Prosecutors, Lay Judges, victims and defendants.
