Abstract

PADRON CASTRO, MJ  and  PORTILLO GUERRERO, G. Facial asymmetries prevalence using Levandoski panoramic analysis. Rev. Odont. Mex [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.2, pp.99-104. ISSN 1870-199X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fo.1870199xp.2009.13.2.15607.

Levandoski developed a unique system to analyze the panoramic radiography and he adapted it for the interpretation of the TMJ. Later other authors have used it for the diagnosis of facial asymmetries and hyperplasia of the coronoids process. The objective of this study was to present the Levandoski Panoramic Analysis as a mean to diagnose facial asymmetries. Twenty seven panoramic radiography of children between 3 to 6 years-old, that were not considered patients anymore, during 2001-2003 in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of the DEPeI of the FO of the UNAM were selected, that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Several degrees of asymmetries in the 100% of the cases were founded. The 59.25% of the total population presented facial asymmetries of more than 3 mm when comparing left side with the right side. It is concluded that facial asymmetries represent a common problem for children population and also that the diagnosis is very important using several and efficient methods such as Levandoski panoramic analysis.

Keywords : Levandoski panoramic analysis; facial asymmetry; panoramic radiography.
