Resumen

VELASCO MOLINA, Mónica. The participation of Afrodescendents at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brazil. Culturales [online]. 2017, vol.5, n.2, pp.107-156. ISSN 2448-539X.

Afrodescendents in Brazil represent more than half of the total population of the country. However, they are under-represented at the different governmental orders. The present document is aimed to show how the incorporation of black and dun people has taken place at one of the traditionally excluding ministries of this sector of the population, as it would be the case of the one of Foreign Affairs. The text makes a tour since the appointing of the first black ambassador, Raymundo Souza Dantas, and his disagreements at the ministry, passing through the situation that started with the movement of the Brazilian society, in general, and of the black movements, in particular, toward the transition to democracy, which allowed topics like discrimination to be openly debated, up to the implementation of affirmative actions at the Itamaraty, its scopes, obstacles and challenges.

Palabras llave : affirmative actions; discrimination; black movements; Itamaraty; Brazil.
