Abstract

This paper develops the theoretical elements to analyze the process of construction of concepts on youth culture and how they support development with different social science research with youth. In a first part is identified the concept of youth in Western society. It continues with different interpretations on youth as a problem of adaptation from a medical and psychological vision, which is refuted by the cultural vision that begins in the thirties of the twentieth century and that which continues to the present day. Finally, some major Latin American researchers and their lines of major work are presented.
