Abstract

SERRATO GUZMAN, Abraham N.  and  BALBUENA BELLO, Raúl. Silent and in the dark. Heteronormativity and the closet, resources of biopolitics. Culturales [online]. 2015, vol.3, n.2, pp.151-180. ISSN 2448-539X.

The aim of this article is to describe from the notion of biopolitics determined by Michel Foucault, the practices and discourses that "circulate" within the family. This can be understood as a "disciplinary mechanism" that, on one side, reproduces and disseminates the heteronormative ideology, and on the other side, regulates the body's uses and the manner in which it expresses sexuality of its homosexual members. We consider that this set of practices and discourses articulates what in colloquial language is known as "the closet", and that often requires homosexual members to try to "correct" or to keep secret (or postpone as much as possible) the public manifestation of their homosexuality.

Keywords : biopolitics; family; closet; heteronormativity; homosexuality.
