Abstract

LERMA RODRIGUEZ, Enriqueta. Considerations about the ethnographic investigation of the Yaqui community. Culturales [online]. 2014, vol.2, n.2, pp.41-62. ISSN 2448-539X.

This article discusses the need to demystify the ethnographic investigation undertaken among indigenous groups who reside in the Mexican northwest, in semi-desert regions. The particularities of the ethnographic method, including the construction of the data, use of thick description, the need for a comprehensive attitude and the ethical-political-theoretical-ideological positioning of the investigator are explained. Furthermore the author describes, from her own personal experience in the field, the importance of gender, willingness, and the physical resistance of the researcher, as well as the socio-political context of the investigation, all of which are important elements of good ethnographic observation in the Yaqui communities.

Keywords : ethnographic method; Yaqui Tribe; Vícam Estación.
