Abstract

AGUILAR NERY, Jesús. Diferencia racial en docentes de educación básica de Tijuana y Tecate. Un estudio exploratorio. Culturales [online]. 2012, vol.8, n.15, pp.47-80. ISSN 2448-539X.

What data underlies the widespread idea that human races exist? We know that human race in disciplines such as biology and anthropology is a rejected concept. The purpose of this study was to determine some of the elements that feed the thoughts about racism from a sample of professionals in basic education along the Mexican border. Using a questionnaire administered in the cities of Tijuana and Tecate, found that the concept of race is used to group and divide human groups. The components include the definitions are mainly the people’s physical characteristics. I conclude by noting some implications about having a poor knowledge base to build a racist ideology, which is based both on a cognitive mechanism that puts in a certain order the differences, as well as by the method used to give content to such differences.

Keywords : racism; Tijuana; Tecate; teachers; basic education.
