Abstract

ONGAY, Luis. No soy mexicano, soy de Tijuana: juventud e identidad en la frontera norte de México. Culturales [online]. 2010, vol.6, n.11, pp.7-42. ISSN 2448-539X.

Can a cosmopolitan identity be achieved, as a logical cultural response to the processes of mundialization and the economic globalization that accompanies it? Based on this question, I conducted a series of in-depth interviews with 20 young people between the ages of 16 and 29 in the city of Tijuana during 2004. As a result of the analysis of its discourse on the phenomenon generically known as globalization, I present several responses of the young tijuanenses on what it means to be young, Mexican, tijuanense and living at the border, as well as the forms in which they characterize the cultural "others" with whom they share the metropolitan Tijuana.

Keywords : identity; youth life style; globalization; Tijuana.
