Abstract

ROJAS C., Alma Delia et al. Determination of the analgesic effect of the hexane extract of flowers of Eupatorium arsenei in a model of acute pain in rats. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2015, vol.46, n.1, pp.64-69. ISSN 1870-0195.

The aim of this study was to investigate analgesic activity of extract of flowers of Eupatorium arsenei using a thermal model of acute pain. Wistar female rats were administered with 200 mg/kg of extract dissolved in sesame oil intraperitoneally, the control group received vehicle. The analgesic activity was determined using the model of tail flick. The group administered with the extract showed analgesic effect 30 minutes after the administration, effect duration was 6 hours. The different stage of the estrous cycle does not modify the nociceptive response of animals. The possible interaction between chromene compounds present in the extract with the COX-2, enzyme responsible for the nociceptive process, may be the source of the observed analgesic effect.

Keywords : Ageratina arsenei; Tail flick test; pain; rat.
