Obesity is a global problem resultant of an imbalance among energy intake and energy expenditure, plus genetic background and lifestyle, generating an increase in body weight and body fat. Today, Mexico occupies the first place in obesity with a prevalence of 33%. The cost of medical care for an obese individual is twice of that of a healthy person. This pathology is related with diseases like type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and cáncer. Recently, obesity has been associated with an imbalance of two main microbial groups in the human intestinal microbiome: the Firmicutes and the Bacteroidetes. This imbalance in favor of the Firmicutes considered high-energy pullers from meals by their enzymatic activities, together whit large food intake, genetics and lifestyle are considered as factors involved in obesity.
