Abstract

ROJAS-OVIEDO, Irma et al. Release behaviour of indomethacin from aquasomes using a dialysis method. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2012, vol.43, n.2, pp.61-65. ISSN 1870-0195.

The aim of this work was to determine the release behavior of Indomethacin (I), a low solubility drug model, from Aquasomes (A) through a dialysis methodology and UV-spectroscopy. Structural characterization was evaluated by transmission and scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and infrared spectroscopy. The particle size analysis of the clusters of aquasomes indicated an average particle size in the range of 3 to 4 μm, with a media of 3.68 μm, and the standard error of the media 0.0082. Within the first twenty minutes aquasomes released twelve fold more indomethacin than the physical mixture (PM) of the compounds. The release was sustained over twenty hours in a ratio 1.6 to 1. Infrarred spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry, results point out about interactions between molecules inside the acuosomes.

Keywords : aquasomes; dialysis; drug release; electron microscopy; infrared spectroscopy.
