This paper analyzes the mural cycle by Olga Costa and José Chávez Morado made in the Agua Hedionda Spa in Cuautla, Morelos in 1952, a work that allows us to observe some of the thematic and stylistic differences of each one of the members of the couple of artists in a paradigmatic way. Leaning on some of Gaston Bachelard’s concepts in his classic work Water and Dreams: Essay on the Imagination of Matter (1942), in the text I interpret the imaginaries of the artists in their representations of water. Considering their individual visions regarding the conceptualization and dreaming of the water motif, it is concluded that, to know the Mexican muralism in its full scope, it is necessary to integrate female muralism, which complements and enriches the cultural phenomenon of the movement originally created with the intention to democratize art.
