Resumen

PENICHE, Paola  y  CORTES, Inés. Emerging diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito among the Mayan population of Yucatan: vulnerability, risk perception and care models. Andamios [online]. 2022, vol.19, n.48, pp.419-445.  Epub 17-Oct-2022. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v19i48.911.

By analyzing ethnographically the epidemic outbreaks of two vectorial emergent diseases (chikungunya and zika) on the Mayan population of Eastern Yucatán, during 2015 to 2017 years, we research the influence of two variables (risk perception and attention models) on the vulnerability of this people to such diseases. We conclude that the vulnerability emerged because the risks perceived by the Mayan people were not recognized neither attended by the Health Public System, so they had to enfaced such risks by themselves, through the only resources at their reach, mainly a precarious system of self-care.

Palabras llave : Aedes aegypti; vulnerability; risk; attention models; Mayan people.
