Abstract

CASTRO, Ana Rita. Towards a typology of Interculturality in health: scope, disputes and challenges. Andamios [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.45, pp.535-552.  Epub Sep 27, 2021. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v18i45.829.

With the goal to provide theoretical and conceptual inputs the term “interculturality” is analyzed on a general level and in broad manner, closely following the proposed perspectives of the author Catherine Walsh. Parting from this analysis and the bibliographic revision of different intercultural health experiences in the region of Latinamerica, three approaches on interculturality in health are constructed, specifying for each one of them it’s scope and limitations. Lastly, concepts like poverty, inequality and exclusion are applied and it is noted that there must be a relationship between interculturality and social inequality in the health field, which will allow the transition to the possibilities of action and transformation of the living conditions of indiginous people and communities.

Keywords : Interculturality; health; inequality; indigenous people.
