Abstract

OLIVIER TELLEZ, Guadalupe. An approach to absenteeism in high school education. Andamios [online]. 2020, vol.17, n.43, pp.271-290.  Epub Sep 27, 2021. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v17i43.775.

This article discusses a methodological approach to the study of absenteeism in Mexican high school education from a meso-sociological perspective. The design of an exploratory survey is shown, applied to 115 students from five different types of schools in Mexico City. First of all, some theoretical perspectives more used for the analysis of absenteeism are discussed, in order to locate some conceptual and methodological tools that led the construction of a typology of absenteeism applicable to the Mexican case. Subsequently, the universe of study is explained as well as the applied model and procedures. Finally, this work presents an analysis on opportunities and limitations in the application of the proposed instrument for the study of absenteeism in plural and differentiated contexts.

Keywords : Absenteeism; high school education; absenteeism typology; methodological analysis.
