Abstract

RIVERA SCHNEIDER, Fabián Eduardo. Hermeneutics and historical self-awareness in the act of investigating. Andamios [online]. 2020, vol.17, n.43, pp.95-114.  Epub Sep 27, 2021. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v17i43.766.

In this article we propose to reflect on how the call for researchers to be aware of their own historicity could be understood from Gadamer. First, we will seek to show the limits of historical process and fact concepts, to be used in the understanding of the own historicity, showing that historicity should be understood from the Gadamerian hermeneutical principle of effectual history (Wirkungsgeschichte). From the above, we will propose that hermeneutics should not be understood as a methodological technique, but as an attitude. Finally, we will seek to demonstrate the mutual belonging between the hermeneutic and its object of study.

Keywords : Hermeneutics; Gadamer; historicity; Effectual history; researcher.
