Abstract

GOMEZ GALAN, José. Social and global perspective of environmental education: ethical transformation and new challenges. Andamios [online]. 2019, vol.16, n.40, pp.299-325.  Epub May 18, 2020. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v16i40.708.

The article aims at providing the basis of an innovative, social and educational model to transform environmental education into environmentally-oriented education in values, and promote awareness and sensitization of citizens in the face of serious social and ecological problems. It concludes that multiple educational trends coexist today in the absence of a single environmental ethics, which requires adopting a new global perspective to address these challenges. As a result, a holistic construct combines the main ethical values which are present in movements of anthropocentric, zoocentric, biocentric, ecocentric environmental education in nature. This involves a multidimensional ethical transformation that, alongside human and social development, enhances respect for other sentient beings and the preservation of the environment to which we belong.

Keywords : Environment; globalization; environmental education; education in values; anthropocentrism.
