VERGARA ERICES, Luis. Mixture and social cohesion of neighborhood: a socio-space approach to the new latin american housing policies. Andamios [online]. 2019, vol.16, n.40, pp.275-298. Epub 18-Mayo-2020. ISSN 2594-1917. https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v16i40.707.
Different housing policies that promote social mixing begin to take shape in Latin America, seeking to restore social cohesion in neighbourhoods. These measures have been criticized in the Anglo-Saxon countries for failing to meet the objective that it proposes, suggesting that the diversity of the neighbourhood is an obstacle to cohesion. This article offers an inter-scalar approach of neighbourhood cohesion and a socio-spatial understanding of its configuration, advancing in five hypotheses that help to understand the effects of social mix policies on the cohesion of neighbourhoods in the region. It concludes with reflections on the applicability of this view on social mixing processes induced by gentrification.
