Abstract

In the context of the neoliberal policies and the economic crises, this work, inside the frame of the studies about the migration to the United States and through historical and ethnographic data, researches, since a qualitative perspective, the recently peasant migration from Las Margaritas, México, to the US (1996-2008). After the description of the origin places and the socioeconomic situation, this article delineated the emergence and characterization of this migration as a strategy to face the economic and material scarcity. The contribution of this work is that describes how the migration is based upon communitarian links and relationships, showing that the migrants are social subjects with agency that use their social relationships and knowledge.
