Abstract

This paper analyzes the configuration of ethnic identifications in a pluricultural urban space, taking as a case study the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas in the state of Chiapas. For this, key moments in the historical development of the city marked by migratory waves that generate identity patterns of different types, from which the articulation of areas of cultural control from competition and integration but at the same time segregation and racism, from which emerge urban ethnicities. Finally, a typology of focused ethnicities is proposed to understand the dimensions of identity processes from otherness, based on a methodology of structural analysis.
