Resumen

DI PIERO, María Emilia. Methods of admission to education and conceptions of distributive justice: representations of teaching in a traditional secondary school in Argentina. Andamios [online]. 2017, vol.14, n.35, pp.379-402. ISSN 2594-1917.

In the Eighties of last century, in the context of return to democracy after the last dictatorship in Argentina, secondary schools were forced to change their method of admission. For the group of schools we investigated, under an egalitarian and democratic rhetoric, admission tests were replaced by public lottery. At present there are, however, different conceptions about what is considered the method of admission for fairer access to this group of schools which, dependent on a National University, are strongly demanded by the local population. In this paper we argue that these representations of distributive justice of vacancies consolidated as hegemonic, replicate some egalitarian cultural configuration present in the country according to which education should be open to all. Thus, is assumed that, being guaranteed “equal opportunity”, who succeed will be effectively the most deserving.
